migrating from proxmox to freebsd (part 01): introduction
so the plan is to migrate from proxmox to freebsd. the goal is to use jails to replace lxc and bhyve to replace kvm. i only run two vms on the proxmox server so that shouldn’t be too big of an issue. but i do run a ton of containers, some of which are kind of high priority and i should really make sure i keep the proxmox server around for a while in case things really head south.
the proxmox server is running on a ryzen 3700x (yes ryzen) using an asrock x570d4u. it’s pretty much a ryzen running on a server board with ecc. say what you want about asrock but this board is pretty awesome.
the freebsd server is going to be some ancient dual xeon 1u from the days of yesteryear. i’ll be more specific later about it but for the past year or two it’s sort of been rotting on my rack.
